At Thursday evening’s Danish App Awards ceremony to name the best Danish apps 2013, Danske Bank’s MobilePay app took home the main App of the Year award.
On Thursday evening, Danske Bank’s popular MobilePay app was named App of the Year 2013 at the Danish App Awards. It was the third time that the event was held. The jury, chaired by journalist and presenter Nikolaj Sonne, also awarded a string of other awards. As well as being named the best Business & Finance app, MobilePay also won the Best Functionality category.
“We are delighted and honoured to have won these prestigious awards. The speed at which everybody in Denmark has taken to MobilePay has surprised even us,” says Bo Tolstrup, project manager for MobilePay, after he and his colleagues had been presented with the award at the Aller building on Havneholmen in Copenhagen on Thursday evening.
Jury chairman: Convincing debut in exciting market
In naming MobilePay App of the Year, Nikolaj Sonne said that the solution has made a convincing debut in a market where there will be a lot at stake in the near future. In other words, a market is opening up for mobile payment methods in a society which is becoming increasingly cash-free.
“In a very short space of time, MobilePay has gone from zero to a huge number of downloads. Danske Bank opted out of consensus democracy and decided to launch its own solution. Clear choices have been made, resulting in an extremely simple and near-perfect solution,” said Nikolaj Sonne.
In less than nine months, MobilePay has been downloaded by 965,000 Danes. Each day, an additional 4,000 or so Danes download the app.
