New principles: Equal rights for rainbow families in Danske Bank

Rainbow families in Danske Bank will now have the same rights in terms of maternity-, paternity-, and parental leave as other employees.

This week we celebrate Copenhagen Pride Week to mark the importance of diversity, inclusion and equal rights for all. In an effort to support this agenda, we now ensure that parents in rainbow families get the same rights in terms of parental leave as other parents in Danske Bank.

This means that employees in Danske Bank, who are part of a rainbow family, now have equal rights to pay and absence, even if they are not biological or adoptive parents.

All our employees must be able to go on parental leave when they become parents – regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation or non-biological relation to the child.

Head of HR, Danske Bank

Karsten Breum, Head of HR at Danske Bank, says:

"It is about time that rainbow families get equal rights in terms of parental leave, so I am pleased that Danske Bank now implements this. All our employees must be able to go on parental leave when they become parents – regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation or non-biological relation to the child."

Further than existing legislation
He emphasises, that with this initiative, Danske Bank goes beyond the existing legislation in many countries, and therefore HR is working on answering the many "what-if" questions.

"We want to help rainbow families and keep up with the pioneers of this area, as diversity and inclusion are key values for us," says Karsten Breum.

The implementation of equal rights to parental leave for rainbow families applies to all countries in which Danske Bank operate.
