“A job filled with responsibility and the opportunity to adapt it to your student life.”

This is the concurrent opinion of Rebecca Skindbjerg Jensen and Philip Johannes Maarschalk when they explain what they appreciate most about working at Danske Bank alongside their studies at the Copenhagen Business School.

Every year, the international research and consultancy firm Universum surveys where business students in Denmark prefer to work alongside their studies. This year, Danske Bank moves up two places from ninth place in 2024 to seventh place. Danske Bank is thus the financial company in Denmark where business students prefer to work.

Room to create your own job
“The best thing about being a student employee at Danske Bank is the combination of being considered an equal colleague who contributes to important tasks at the bank and having the room to structure your working life to fit in with your studies and exams,” explains Philip Johannes Maarschalk.

He has a BSc in Economics and Business Administration and is now pursuing a MSc in General Mangement and Analytics. At Danske Bank, he works with support of the execution of the bank’s Forward ’28 strategy in the retail customer area.

Danske Bank has around 300 students employed across the organisation in Denmark alone. This group of employees plays a significant role, solving a wide range of important tasks and participating in various constellations within the Group’s many work areas.

One of the things that surprised me most when starting at Danske Bank was how diverse and large a workplace it actually is. We have a multitude of different job functions at the bank, and you meet all types of people. From suits to sneakers.

Opportunity to find and create future talents
Each year, almost 200 students are employed by Danske Bank.

The task of informing students about opportunities at the bank is one that both Rebecca Skindbjerg Jensen and Philip Johannes Maarschalk have embraced as active members of the Danske Bank Student Board.

“One of the things that surprised me most when starting at Danske Bank was how diverse and large a workplace it actually is. We have a multitude of different job functions at the bank, and you meet all types of people. From suits to sneakers. This is one of the things I emphasise when I am out telling students looking for a student job about the opportunities,” says Rebecca Skindbjerg Jensen.

She is pursuing a BSc in Business Administration and Economics and plans to study for a MSc in Finance and Accounting.

A range of opportunities

Strong progress among IT students
It is not only among business students that Danske Bank takes a big step up the ranking list. For IT students, Danske Bank moves up from number 22 to being the 14th most attractive business in Denmark, despite the financial sector rarely being considered a dedicated IT workplace.

Recent years’ significant progress is welcomed by Ronja Gunhild Stentoft, Senior Employer Branding Consultant at Danske Bank’s HR department, where she is responsible for communicating opportunities at the bank to new talents, including student employees.

“I particularly notice that we are advancing within several fields of study. We have placed special emphasis on investing in relationship-building activities targeted at students, both via social media and by inviting them here to our new headquarters for events. When we open our doors and invite them in, it is so they can get to know us, meet other students, gain an insight into the opportunities across the bank and get an idea of the culture. We aim to attract employees with diverse competences and create an ambitious and developing environment,” concludes Ronja Gunhild Stentoft.
