Danske Bank makes its largest-ever investment in wealth management with a new advisory solution for affluent private clients

Danske Bank’s new advisory solution, Butterfly™, combines the bank’s long-standing investment expertise with BlackRock’s technology platform, Aladdin Wealth™. This marks another significant step towards providing clients with more proactive and relevant investment advice.

From today, Danske Bank’s Private Banking clients will have access to the new advisory solution, Butterfly™. Danske Bank thus becomes the first bank in the Nordic region to offer investment advice powered by Aladdin Wealth™, one of the industry’s leading portfolio and risk management platforms, developed by global asset manager BlackRock.

Butterfly represents a breakthrough in investment advice in several respects. With technology from Aladdin Wealth, it becomes possible to conduct continuous data-driven monitoring of clients’ portfolios, advanced stress tests and scenario analyses to an even greater extent.

These insights are translated into specific, proactive recommendations for clients. By integrating Aladdin Wealth as the foundation for client dialogue, Danske Bank gives affluent private clients access to a new level of ongoing insights that has previously been primarily reserved for the largest institutional clients.

Aladdin Wealth provides a core technology and analytics layer for Butterfly, enabling the solution to give advisers a single, connected overview of their portfolios, enabling them to perform continuous portfolio optimisation and robust risk management, including stress testing, simulations, and portfolio analyses.

Elisabeth Sterner, Head of the Nordics at BlackRock, says:

“The expectations of wealth management clients are evolving rapidly. They want advice that is more proactive, personalised and based on real-time insights. The name Butterfly draws on the theory of the butterfly effect. Major changes in financial markets often begin as small signals that are easy to overlook but important to detect. Just as the flap of a butterfly’s wings can trigger major weather events far away, small market movements can, over time, have a significant impact on the development of clients’ wealth.

“We are proud to be the first bank in the Nordic region to integrate Aladdin Wealth into advice for affluent private clients. For our advisers, this means that routine tasks can be automated to a greater extent, freeing up time to provide specific recommendations based on the new advisory solution. With Butterfly, we can therefore devote more time to what matters most to our clients: being proactive and creating an even more personalised client experience,” says Anne Buchardt.

An important step in Danske Bank’s 2028 strategy
Butterfly is a central part of Danske Bank’s strategy, launched three years ago under the name Forward ’28. It is a long-term plan aimed in particular at strengthening the bank’s position through digital transformation and innovation. An important part of the strategy is to improve the client experience and increase investment in new digital platforms and expert advice through new partnerships.

Butterfly will initially be offered to the bank’s Private Banking clients and will gradually be rolled out to more clients in the Premium segment, as well as to clients in Finland and Sweden later this year.

Fact box: What is Butterfly?

Butterfly is Danske Bank’s new investment advisory solution for affluent clients. The concept combines Danske Bank’s long-standing investment expertise with one of the leading technology platforms, Aladdin Wealth, and is based on the principle that major changes in financial markets often begin as small signals that are easy to overlook but important to detect.

With Butterfly, clients’ portfolios are monitored continuously, and advisers receive targeted alerts and suggested actions when risks or opportunities arise and if a client’s portfolio no longer matches the agreed investment strategy. This gives clients more proactive advice with actionable recommendations based on the new technology.

This is delivered through a tiered advisory model with clear value and transparent pricing, in which clients pay for ongoing advice rather than transaction-based fees alone.

Ultimately, the aim is to give clients a better overview, enhanced risk management and continuous, proactive optimisation of their portfolios.
