Danske Bank talent recognised for work with sustainability

The sustainability agenda has advanced significantly for the past years, with a growing focus on financial solutions that allow customers to invest to make a difference. Last month, a new global equity fund, Danske Invest Global Sustainable Future, came to light. Now also one of the co-leads behind the fund has been recognised as a talent driving the sustainable agenda forward in the financial sector.

Martin Slipsager Frandsen is Senior Portfolio Manager in Wealth Management at Danske Bank – and has just been named “Sustainability Hope of the Year 2020” at the Sustainability Awards 2020. This year’s hope has won based on his work with the new sustainable equity fund, Danske Invest Global Sustainable Future, which is a solution that allows our customers to invest in companies leading the global transition to increased sustainability.

I have no doubt that sustainability will be a key theme in the future. The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals have just reached their fifth birthday, which means that we only have ten years left before having to meet the 2030 targets. We need solutions and major changes, and investments can play an important role here, as companies that provide parts of solutions to the sustainability challenges of the planet can create great value for both society and shareholders. According to the UN, we will also be able to create business opportunities in the private sector for more than 12 billion dollars – or barely the size of China's GDP – if we manage to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Measurement is essential for sustainable investment

“Sustainability covers a broad area, and we see that a number of companies are in a position where they can support the transitioning towards a more sustainable future. Therefore, one of the most important things for us is to ensure that the companies we invest in actually make a real difference – and of course to be able to show it to our customers. That is exactly what we do with Danske Invest Global Sustainable Future, and that is why I am also very proud to be recognised for our work,” says Martin Slipsager Frandsen.

Danske Invest Global Sustainable Future is continuously investing in 30-40 companies that support positive development of society based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and has set concrete targets as to how the companies included in the fund should contribute to the transitioning to a more sustainable future.

Danske Invest Global Sustainable Future saw the light of day in September, and both customers and companies have contributed with to the development of the fund including perspectives on what is needed to truly drive a sustainable change. Since its debut a month ago, the fund has already been met with great interest.

The Global Sustainable Future fund is a good example of how we make it easier for our customers to make more sustainable choices with their finances. I am very happy for the recognition that Martin and the team behind Global Sustainable Future has received. The award is also a recognition of the financial sector’s role for sustainable development.
