Mastercard to acquire fintech company Aiia. As part of the transaction, Danske Bank A/S sells its shares in Aiia to Mastercard

Mastercard has signed an agreement to acquire the fintech company Aiia. Danske Bank A/S has as part of the transaction agreed to sell its shares in Aiia to Mastercard.

We have been very satisfied with our co-ownership and partnership with Aiia, which has helped to create user-friendly Open Banking solutions for the benefit of our customers across our Nordic markets. We are pleased that Mastercard sees the potential in Aiia, and we are convinced that Mastercard will be the right future owner in relation to the further development of the company and Aiia’s ambitions for European expansion. The decision to sell reflects our efforts to simplify Danske Bank and supports our strategy of focusing on our presence in the Nordic markets,” says Glenn Söderholm, Head of Personal & Business Customers.

We look forward to the continued collaboration with Aiia on solutions that support Open Banking and that provide value for Danske Bank’s customers across the Nordic markets.

Danske Bank has been a co-owner of Aiia since 2018, and the partnership has supported the bank’s work with the PSD2 directive, which obliges banks to make customers’ bank data available to third parties. One of the solutions Aiia has developed on the Open Banking platform provides Danske Bank customers with the ability to view accounts across banks in our mobile and online banking solutions.

The sale is conditional on approval by the relevant authorities. Requisite approval is expected by year-end of 2021. The transaction does not entail any revision of our current outlook for the full-year result.
