Danske Vækstkapital IV kicks off: DKK 1.7 billion raised for investments in start-ups and growth companies

Several leading Danish organisations, companies, funds, and selected high-net-worth individuals have invested in Danske Vækstkapital IV, which aims to provide risk capital to entrepreneurs and growth companies while generating attractive returns for investors. The first investments are expected to be closed in the near future, and additional capital will be raised over the next 12 months.

Earlier this year, we launched Danske Vækstkapital IV to provide a boost to start-ups and growth companies while creating attractive potential returns for investors.

We have now completed the first fundraising round, inviting several leading Danish organisations, companies, and funds to become the initial investors in Danske Vækstkapital IV. These include EIFO (the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark), Dansk Industri, ATP, Danica, DTU’s subsidiary PSV Foundry, among others. Together, they form the backbone of Danske Vækstkapital IV. In addition, a number of selected high-net-worth individuals from Danske Bank have committed to Danske Vækstkapital IV via a special fund established for this purpose.

In total, approximately DKK 1.7 billion has so far been raised for investments within the Danske Vækstkapital IV universe.

“We are proud and grateful to have the backing of leading organisations, companies, and funds that wish to support the ecosystem for startups and growth companies while achieving attractive potential returns on their investment. Over the next 12 months, we plan to raise additional capital for Danske Vækstkapital IV – this first fundraising is just the starting point,” says Casper Bruyant Bonde, Head of Illiquid Alternatives at Danske Bank Asset Management and CEO of Danske Private Equity, which manages the fund programme.

Dansk Industri: It’s about returns and setting an example
Danske Vækstkapital IV consists of three fund modules* that together will provide exposure to a broad portfolio of unlisted start-ups and growth companies at various stages of their development. Like the previous Danske Vækstkapital funds (see fact box), the fund modules in Danske Vækstkapital IV will focus primarily on investments in the Nordic countries, particularly Denmark.

The employer and business organization Dansk Industri is among the investors in Danske Vækstkapital IV.

“Our investment in Danske Vækstkapital IV is about securing an attractive return while strengthening access to risk capital for entrepreneurs and growth companies. Initiative and innovation are crucial for future growth, and as Denmark’s largest employer and business organization, it is important for us to take the lead and contribute to creating the best conditions for start-ups and growth companies – both financially and through special initiatives for start-ups,” says Sine Linderstrøm, Director of SMEs and Entrepreneurship at Dansk Industri.

EIFO: A solid foundation for future growth and jobs
EIFO is another significant investor in Danske Vækstkapital IV.

“For many years, we have had a front-row seat to witness how the Danske Vækstkapital funds have made a significant, positive impact on fostering growth within Danish businesses while delivering attractive returns. It is therefore only natural for us to participate in Danske Vækstkapital IV, just as we have in the previous funds. This is exactly the kind of long-term risk capital that is essential for building a solid foundation for future growth and job creation in Denmark,” says Erik Balck Sørensen, Chief Investment Officer at EIFO.

Entrepreneur behind Podimo: ”We need more long-term capital in Denmark”

Different fund modules provide flexibility for investors
The three fund modules in Danske Vækstkapital IV will invest in venture funds, buyout funds, and carefully selected individual companies, primarily side-by-side with buyout funds, referred to as co-investments. While venture funds invest in start-ups, buyout funds invest in more established companies with potential for further growth.

This three-part structure largely enables each investor to tailor their exposure to align with their preferences. For example, EIFO will participate exclusively in the venture module, which is also a key focus for Dansk Industri in its efforts to support Danish entrepreneurship. Other investors are focusing on buyout investments.

First investments expected to be closed in the near future
Danske Vækstkapital IV is expected to invest in a number of carefully selected funds focusing on investments in areas such as technology and life sciences. With the successful completion of the first fundraising, Danske Vækstkapital IV is now officially ready to begin making investments.

“Although we have been working for a long time to identify interesting investment opportunities, we can now truly begin to create value – both for the investors in Danske Vækstkapital IV and for a wide range of start-ups and growth companies. We expect to close the first investments in the near future and have a very promising pipeline of potential investment opportunities,” says Casper Bruyant Bonde.

An investment in the fund modules of Danske Vækstkapital IV can be categorised as a high-risk investment with very limited liquidity, requiring a long time horizon.
