Diversity in focus: A week-long celebration of the right to be who you are

At Danske Bank, we support everybody’s right to be who they are. From 9 to 15 August, we will celebrate diversity and hold a series of events to demonstrate our support for inclusion and diversity.

Diversity and inclusion are core values at Danske Bank.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is demonstrated through how we run our business and is reflected in our workplace environment. Throughout the year, we foster strong, collegial communities and traditions that support inclusion and diversity. This year, we will again celebrate this work with a range of events held inside and outside Danske Bank.

“Diversity and inclusion are important to Danske Bank and to all our employees, in the same way they are important to our customers and the societies that we’re a part of. I’m proud of the fact that within Dank Bank we have a large group of highly dedicated colleagues working to promote even greater inclusion and diversity – both during this week’s events and throughout the year," says Karsten Breum, Chief People Officer at Danske Bank, and continues:

"And as a business, this is of course something we support. We understand that we have a special obligation as a large business to take a lead and take responsibility for turning words into action so we can foster greater diversity across all levels of society.”"

We understand that we have a special obligation as a large business to take a lead and take responsibility for turning words into action so we can foster greater diversity across all levels of society.

During August, our new head office in Postbyen, Copenhagen, will host internal events open to all colleagues, providing opportunities for colleagues to enhance their understanding of diversity and inclusion.

In addition, we will continue our collaboration with the sports association Pan Idræt, with whom we will hold a running event and dance event at Nytorv in central Copenhagen. With the external events that we are holding in collaboration with Pan Idræt, we want to create a framework for celebrating diversity outside Danske Bank, and we invite all Copenhagen residents to come and join the party.

“We’re pleased that Danske Bank will be contributing to creating an inclusive space for multiple sports events. We want to create strong social relationships in the LGBTQ+ community through sport because this enables healthy and strong relationships to be built between everyone,” explains Christian Bigom, spokesperson from Pan Idræt.

How we celebrate diversity in August

We are hosting events for our employees from the 9th to the 15th of August, including a family day at Copenhagen Central, canal tours, and talks.

On Wednesday, the 14th of August, we are hosting an external event with Denmark's largest LGBTQ membership association and sports club, Pan Idræt, where everyone in Copenhagen can join in "Move with Pride" and run or dance through the streets of Copenhagen.

Forging ahead with diversity
celebration of diversity next week is a continuation of a number of structural initiatives Danske Bank has implemented over the past six years, which have seen the diversity and inclusion agenda being embedded and anchored within management, goals, processes and policies.

As a result of our work in these areas, Danske Bank was in 2022 and 2023 recognised by the Stonewall Global Equality Index as one of the top 100 global workplaces committed to strengthening LGBTQ+ rights.

However, our work is far from complete, and we know that we can do more to achieve further progress with diversity and inclusion in all parts of our business and to further integrate diversity and inclusion into our daily operations. And this is why our focus on diversity and inclusion will remain steadfast over the coming years.

More on diversity & inclusion

Our new headquarters in Postbyen, Copenhagen, will host a series of internal events throughout August, aimed at enhancing our employees' understanding of diversity and inclusion. In relation to this, we have asked several employees in this video what they perceive as collegial support and what it means to be an ally.
